Firstly, a massive thank you from everyone at the hospice.
Whether you’re running a marathon, cycling or throwing yourself out of an aeroplane, every pound you raise will make a huge difference to the lives of our patients and their families.
We couldn’t do what we do without amazing people like you.
We caught up with hospice supporter, Cora, after having recently completed her latest challenge – The London Marathon. Cora talks through her experience undertaking challenges and fundraising for the hospice; see what she has to say and get inspired.
This is a great way to raise money whilst having fun with friends and family.
Always a good one for large sporting events. For example, charge your friends and family £2 for a horse or team, 50% to the winner and 50% to your chosen cause.
Hold a cake sale at your work place, club, church or anywhere you like.
Use posters, emails, social media, the local press… everything you can to get the word out about your fantastic fundraising.
Declutter by selling your unwanted items at car boot sales and online marketplaces and donating the money towards your fundraising target.
If you’re doing a running challenge, ask people to guess your finish time for a donation of their choice, with the winner receiving a prize.
1. To get started, simply go to justgiving.com/hospicegs
2. Click the blue ‘Fundraise’ button
3. You will then be asked to log in or sign up. Follow the step-by-step guide to set up your page and get ready to receive your first donation!
Fundraisers with a photograph or video on their page raise 13% more per photo. A perfect excuse for a selfie!
Tell your story. Writing a story on your JustGiving page helps your supporters understand why you’re fundraising. You could raise 65% more if you do.
Set a target. Let your supporters know how much to are hoping to raise for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
Sharing your page on Facebook, Instagram, X and WhatsApp will help you raise more. Let people know about the good stuff you’re doing.
There are lots of your friends, colleagues, and neighbours who are not on social networks but would love to hear about what you are doing.
Videos help tell your story and why your cause is so important. You can also live stream directly on your page to show how you are raising money.
Taking on a physical challenge? You could raise 111% more and have supporters keep track of your progress by connecting your page with your Strava or Fitbit account.
Let supporters know how you are doing by updating your page often, they will enjoy following your progress and you can even do it via the JustGiving app.
We love to see and share what our supporters are up to when preparing for a challenge and/or fundraising for our hospice.
Sharing your fundraising journey on social media is also a great way to get donations in – don’t be afraid to nudge friends and family to support you!
Saying yes to Gift Aid increases a donation by an extra 25% at no extra cost to you or to the people who have sponsored you.
Encourage your supporters to tick the gift aid box on your sponsor form or to agree to Gift Aid when supporting you by donating on your online fundraising page such as JustGiving.
Gift Aid is a government led scheme administered by HM Revenue and Customs which allows us to claim 25p for every £1 that is donated.
What a difference it makes!
Do you work for a company who runs a matched funding scheme? Many larger employers are eager for their employees to engage in raising money for charities and will often match the amount you raise or up to a certain amount. Ask your manager, HR or payroll department for more information.
Work for a smaller company that doesn’t run this scheme? No problem, do you have a generous boss who will donate to your fundraising efforts?
If your employer needs any information from us, please ask them to contact us by email at fundraising@hospicegs.com or call us on 01244 851 811
If you’d prefer not to fundraise online that’s no problem, you can download our paper sponsorship forms and fundraise in the more traditional way!
