“Such an honour to support the hospice.”

Hospice supporter Cora Kendrick completed the 2024 London Marathon in support of the hospice. We sat down with her and asked to her to talk through her experiences of the hospice, and of taking on challenges to support us.

“I want to make sure as many people as possible know about the hospice and what it does because until you’ve actually experienced it, you can’t really understand or appreciate just how amazing it is,” says Cora Kendrick.

“My Dad was in the hospice for ten days before he died in 2022. He received the most amazing care and I couldn’t have asked for any more. Mum and I were supported so well too: the hospice isn’t just for patients – family members have access to counselling, therapies and other valuable support.

“I wanted to try and give something back. Just a few months after dad passed away I ran the Chester half marathon and raised over £1,300. I was so proud to run for the hospice and it spurred me onto thinking of a different challenge the following year.

“In August 2023 I faced my fears with a Tandem skydive, again raising money for the hospice. What an experience that was! I immediately started thinking about what my next challenge could be…. I know – The London Marathon!

“I had to train really hard because I had never run past 17 miles. My practice for London was the Chester Marathon. I then followed a tailored training plan from December 2023 right up till the big day on 21st April 2024.

“London was something else, an experience I will never forget. The crowds were amazing and it was an honour to support the hospice on such a massive event where the world was watching.

“I raised £3,700 – £1,200 over the target. I was amazed and so proud. I’ve already entered the ballot to run next year!

“I have so enjoyed all the events I have been able to complete for the hospice and will certainly be doing more.”

Cora added: “People really need to know how amazing this place is and do their bit to help ensure that it can continue to do for others what it has done for us.”
