This year it will cost £5.2 million to run the hospice and we will only receive 17% of this from statutory/government sources.
As we are not part of the NHS and we are an independent charity, we need to find the remaining £4.4 million from our fundraising activities. We are grateful to everyone who supports us, and this includes people who leave us a gift in their Will.
There are many reasons why you may choose to leave a gift in your will, as explained in this video by hospice supporter Professor Dennis Holman.
Although we provide vital end of life care, the hospice is not part of the NHS and only receives 17% of its funding from government sources.
Increasingly gifts in wills are becoming a significant and essential part of the hospice’s income, in fact 1 in 5 people on our in-patient unit are cared for from our legacy income – that’s how important it is.
We understand your family comes first in your will, you could consider leaving the hospice 1% of your estate.
Please see our frequently asked questions below for more information.

A Will is one of the most important documents you will ever write. It makes sure that everyone knows your wishes. With an up to date Will you can have peace of mind that the people and causes close to your heart are looked after in the way you choose.
If you die without a Will, there are certain rules which dictate how your money, property or possessions should be allocated. This may not be the way that you would have wished. If you have children, you will need to make a Will so that arrangements for the children can be made if either one or both parents die.
It is a good idea to review your Will from time to time to make sure it still reflects your wishes, especially if your personal circumstances have changed.
It is always advisable to use a solicitor or professional Will-writer to write or update your Will. They will ensure it is written correctly, is valid and witnessed. Leaving a gift to the Hospice There are different ways of leaving a gift in your Will:
