Join us for the 7 Locks 7 Miles hospice canal walk

Take part in our annual 7 Locks 7 Miles Hospice Canal Walk on Sunday 12th July and enjoy a stunning 7‑mile journey along the historic Shropshire Union Canal — all while supporting your local hospice.

Starting at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, where free parking is available, the 7 Locks 7 Miles route takes you through Backford village before joining the beautiful Shropshire Union Canal Path. From there, you’ll follow the canal around Chester city centre and out towards Christleton, finishing at The Cheshire Cat pub — the perfect place to relax and enjoy lunch after completing your Hospice Canal Walk.

FAQs

Do I need to be a regular walker to take part?

Not at all. The route is approximately 7 miles along a largely flat canal path, making it suitable for most fitness levels. We do recommend wearing comfortable footwear and bringing water.

How long does the walk usually take?

Most participants complete the 7‑mile route in 2–3 hours, depending on pace and rest stops. There will be volunteers along the way to support you throughout the event.

Is there a fundraising target?

Yes — as this is a charity challenge, we encourage walkers to raise as much sponsorship as you can to support our hospice. Every contribution helps us continue providing essential care for our community.
