As the UK faces a rising demand for palliative and end-of-life care, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd is joining forces with over 140 hospices across the country in the #ThisIsHospiceCare campaign. Together, we’re raising awareness about the essential role hospices play—and the urgent need to secure our future.
By 2040, the UK’s annual deaths are expected to rise by 130,000, with 90% due to natural causes—meaning most could benefit from hospice care. Yet, 1 in 4 people still pass away without the support they need.
“If we don’t start planning now, the gap in hospice care could become very real. That’s why we’re speaking up—because every person deserves dignity, comfort, and care.” – Caroline Siddall, Director of Income Generation
In our community, the rising need for hospice services will place unprecedented pressure on our care services. Right now, we already rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters—and gifts in wills play a crucial role in making our care possible.
Hospice supporter Prof. Dennis Holman decided to leave a gift in his will as a gesture of gratitude for the care they provided to his wife and friends, saying: “I will never be able to thank everyone at The Hospice of the Good Shepherd enough for everything they did for Jan, for me, for our friends and for our animals. I am so pleased that my final act will go some way to fully express those thanks in a meaningful way.”
1 in 5 of our patients receive care thanks to gifts in wills.
Last year, these gifts made up 15% of our income, helping us to support families when they needed it most.
To ensure hospice care is always here for our community, we are asking supporters in the local community to consider leaving a gift in their will—a lasting legacy that brings comfort and care to future generations.
The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is partnered with local solicitors Oliver & Co, who have kindly agreed to waive their fee in exchange for a donation to the hospice.
