Press release: 03/03/2023
One of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd’s most popular visitors is the latest to sign up for a brand new fundraiser.
It will be best paws forward for Ned, the hospice’s much-loved therapy dog, on Sunday 26 March when he joins other dogs and their owners for the first-ever Hospice Hounds sponsored dog walk.
The Labradoodle is a regular at the Backford hospice, cheering up patients, staff members and visitors every week and providing valuable emotional comfort for those who are at their most vulnerable and unwell.
Owner Brenda Maddocks commented: “Ned’s a star and you can’t help but smile when he’s around.
“He brings that extra bit of comfort and joy into everyone’s life here at the hospice. He’s a welcome diversion for our patients, a dog that really makes a difference especially for those patients who are missing being with their own pets.”

Walkers have a choice of two routes – 5K and 10k. They will set off at 9.30am from Hickory’s restaurant on The Groves heading for Handbridge and Duke’s Drive. Every participant will receive a certificate of completion and a doggy goody bag.
The event is free to enter when you sign up before 19th March. Participants are asked to raise what they can for the hospice through sponsorship or make a donation.
