Hoole Shop Heroine Volunteer!

Sur Brown, 57 volunteers at one our our retail stores in Hoole. She speaks to us about her experiences volunteering for the Hospice.

Why did you choose to volunteer for the Hospice?

It’s great work experience for me. I have had to have operations in the past couple of years, so volunteering helps me keep active and social.

How did you find out about volunteering at the hospice shops?

I simply popped in one day and asked if they had any opportunities. I have had a few friends who have been patients at the Hospice so I am aware of the great service it provides.

I was made to feel valued from the moment I walked in the door. They arranged for me to have my first shift with another volunteer to show me the ropes and to make sure I was comfortable as possible.

What do you think the benefits are of volunteering?

The main thing for me is doing well for the Hospice. Every item sold makes you feel great as you know the money is going to a great cause. It also helps a lot with my confidence and building my social skills again after a long term illness. I have got to know a lot of people in the community and made good friends.

Would you recommend volunteering with the Hospice?

I would completely recommend it! It has given me such a sense of purpose and it’s great to get up in the morning and know you’re helping others.
