Our Award winning Volunteer, Paul Gerrard!
Paul Gerrard, 17 has been volunteering for a while now at the Overpool shop. We spoke to him and found out about his volunteering experiences and how volunteering has benefited him.
Why did you choose to volunteer for the Hospice?
I finished school and wanted a part-time job for the summer to keep me busy, so I decided to do some volunteering instead to get some work experience.
How did you find out about volunteering with us?
I just popped into the shop and picked up an application form and heard within a week!
What do you think are the main benefits of volunteering?
Work experience, Helps a lot with confidence too! Before I started volunteering I struggled to talk to strangers and I was very quiet, I feel volunteering has helped me massively with my social skills and helped me come out of my shell. This has also been great as I am in college studying Catering and I feel the added confidence helps me day to day on my course.
Would you recommend volunteering with the Hospice?
Yes, there’s no better feeling then giving back to the community. Although I have no personal attachments to the hospice I constantly think about what good we are doing and how all the money is helping people that need care. I had an award presented to me earlier this year for over 100hours of volunteering, this looks great on my CV!
