Join us for the 7 Locks 7 Miles hospice canal walk
Take part in our annual 7 Locks 7 Miles Hospice Canal Walk on Sunday 12th July and enjoy a stunning 7‑mile journey along the historic Shropshire Union Canal — all while supporting your local hospice.
Starting at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, where free parking is available, the 7 Locks 7 Miles route takes you through Backford village before joining the beautiful Shropshire Union Canal Path. From there, you’ll follow the canal around Chester city centre and out towards Christleton, finishing at The Cheshire Cat pub — the perfect place to relax and enjoy lunch after completing your Hospice Canal Walk.
What You’ll See on the 7 Locks 7 Miles Route
As the name suggests, the 7 Locks 7 Miles Canal Walk will guide you past seven historic canal locks, including the iconic Northgate Staircase Locks. Keep your eyes peeled — you may even see a narrowboat making its way through the lock system!
You’ll also pass under and over 19 bridges, each with its own unique architectural style, making this hospice canal walk one of the most scenic routes in Cheshire.
Shuttle Return Service
Once you finish at The Cheshire Cat, you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses back to the hospice to collect your vehicle. No need to worry about transport — we’ve got it covered.
Entry Prices
- Early Bird Entry: £5 per person (available until 1st June)
